Game Dev Process/Playtesting
Game Development Process:
We came up with ideas and came to an agreement. We started with some character designs and a working prototype with cubes for Week 1. For Week 2, we had a more complete art designs such as backgrounds, enemies, artifacts, etc. In addition, we were able to create main menu system with a working level 1. For Week 3, we finished up the rest of the layers as well as more art designs to go with those layers and additional features.
Playtesting:
As we developed our games, we tested thoroughly. In addition, we had other groups test our games and give us feedbacks on how we can improve.
When getting the game playtested, there was a lot of feedback related to the overall goal of the game. Most players knew that they were in an environment, but they didn't know what they were supposed to do. To alleviate that issue, we added a kind of tutorial screen where the player was told what to do, their controls, and an underlying message about what they needed to do in the game to win. We also address the problem of the options menu not working by adding functionality to it.
